Release of polybrominated diphenyl ethers from wastewater in China

چکیده
Introduction Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a class of flame retardants that were added to thousands of consumer products, such as thermoplastics, electronic equipment, and textiles (Hale et al., 2001).Research has revealed that municipal sewage could be a significant source of PBDEs contamination that is ubiquitous throughout the environment (North, 2004; Song et al., 2006). The Pearl River Delta (PRD) is one of the largest manufacturing bases of electronic products and also one of the largest dumping sites of e-wastes in China. Previous reports have demonstrated significant PBDE pollution in air, sediment, water, biota, and soil in the PRD (Chen et al., 2006; Mai et al., 2005; Guan et al., 2007; Guo et al., 2007). In this study, a detailed investigation of PBDEs was conducted in municipal sewage from the PRD to estimate potential discharge of the PBDEs into the environment through sewage.

Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs) in China: Wastewater Sources and Treatment Methods
China is one of the largest producers and users of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in the world. This has led to ubiquitous environmental occurrence of the main BFRs commercially available in China, namely polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs), and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). Wastewater from BFR manufacturing, manufacturing of BFR-based products, and e-wa...
متن کاملLevels and distribution of methoxylated and hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers in plant and soil samples surrounding a seafood processing factory and a seafood market.
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) along with hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) and methoxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-PBDEs) were found in plant and soil samples collected surrounding a seafood processing factory and a seafood market in China. The profiles of MeO-PBDE congeners were different between seafood processing factory and seafood market. The dete...

متن کاملPolybrominated diphenyl ethers in fish and sediment from river polluted by electronic waste.
The present study investigated contamination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in sediment and fish samples collected from rivers in Guiyu, China where electronic waste (e-waste) is recycled and disposed. PBDE congeners with mono-to hepta-brominated and deca-brominated substitutions were detected using (13)C(12) isotope dilution GC/MS/MS and GC/MS methods, respectively. The total PBDE c...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Stenotrophomonas sp. Strain WZN-1, Which Is Capable of Degrading Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers
Stenotrophomonas sp. strain WZN-1, isolated from an e-waste recycling area in Tianjin, China, is capable of degrading polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The complete genome of strain WZN-1 consists of 4,512,703 bp. This genome information will provide important information about the biodegradation pathways and mechanisms of PBDEs.
